The Arnoff Model

In order to treat one or more dog behavior problems effectively, each must be correctly and thoroughly diagnosed to determine the source or sources.  Canine behavior problems can emanate from one or more of six areas.  To be sure to consider each of these areas, Karen Arnoff developed and utilizes the Arnoff Model for diagnosing and correcting canine behavior problems.

The Arnoff Model is an original classification system of the genetic, environmental and physiological factors that contribute to canine behavior and temperament. (See each element listed to the left.)

We use this Model as the first step in effectively diagnosing and correcting behavior problems.

How We Apply The Arnoff Model

In our experience, the greatest chance for preventing and/or correcting canine behavior problems is through a systematic diagnosis of all the elements of the problem. We determine which parts of the problem arise from the dog and which from the dynamics in the environment. The diagnosis is then followed by a comprehensive treatment program. The timing of when to introduce the various training method is also an important part of the plan. The success of thousands of dogs and owners has convinced us that the well-organized, time-tested Arnoff Model is sensible, comprehensive and a powerful tool for diagnosing, preventing and correcting canine behavior problems.
