Lazy and inactive dog issues for owners

You may be surprised that this rated so low in a recent survey of dog owners as to what problems they were experiencing, but perhaps this makes the most sense of all.

It is said that fat owners are far more likely to have fat dogs because they don’t exercise their selves why would they exercise their dog (ie even paying someone to do it is out of the question).

So what does having a lazy dog mean or look like and why is it a problem.

Well firstly there are very few dogs that are bred to be lounge dogs and hang around the palace. If you look at the majority of dogs and their dog classes (sporting, worker, hunting etc) very few are lounge dogs.

Even lounge dogs like to be social, if they are not given this chance they get bored and their behaviour can change around those you love including yourself.

If a dog is obese it will have more difficulty moving so just like a human the experience won’t be as pleasurable to walk when fat. If you do it in summer the heat will also make the dog not want to move as much.

But being obese for a dog will just like its owner, shorten its life, It will make it prone to a lot more diseases and expensive vet visits.

Lazy dogs that are not fat

The thing is, that a social dog is rarely lazy. Most dogs like associating with a pack and exploring. the only dogs that don’t are usually abused dogs, ones that are fretful because they were never socialized sufficiently.

A lazy dog (ie one that doesn’t move that much) generally has a problem you need to help them overcome.

Dogs are rarely lazy, that is a term that humans make up to humanize them or put the problem on the dog. ALL dogs that are social and well like walks, they are not lazy on walks, so the term lazy or inactive is rarely a true term for a dog.

Dogs will like comfort, and they will like air conditioning (warmth in winter or cool in summer) like all animals do – they are actually intelligent enough to strategize how to get this sometimes. But a smart owner, a caring owner will know that you can walk early enough or late enough to avoid rain and extremes in temperatures that may cause a dog and owner extreme discomfort.

A dog that is exercised will learn to like it more and ask you to walk them. They will be healthier and happier and make you healthier and happier.
